Handsworth Wood nursery facilities: spaces shaped for every stage.

Four carefully designed rooms guide children from baby to preschool in a calm, consistent way. We staff above statutory ratios, use highly-qualified practitioners, and every child has a Key Person who knows them deeply. Ages are a guide — we move children when they’re developmentally ready so each transition feels natural.

Bumble Bees Room

A children's classroom with wooden chairs and tables, a bulletin board that says "Our Creatios" decorated with pink flowers, and shelves with art supplies and toys.
  • 3-18 months

  • A serene, homelike space where babies are nurtured in line with their own routines and rhythms. Practitioners use rich language, songs and stories while introducing sensory and heuristic play with natural, open-ended materials that spark curiosity.

Heuristic play (treasure baskets, loose parts) to build attention and early thinking

Calm daily rhythm with a cosy sleep area and regular checks

Unhurried mealtimes that encourage emerging independence

Daily outdoor experiences — fresh air, textures, and nature every day

Individual learning woven through your baby’s comfort cues and milestones

Honey Bees Room

A classroom setup for an arts and crafts activity with a wooden table, paper, flowers, bottles of paint, brushes, and a flower in the center. Surrounding the table are wooden chairs, and the background features shelves with supplies, a white radiator cover, and various art materials.
  • 18-36 months

  • Curiosity with gentle structure

Busy toddlers thrive with just-enough routine to channel energy into learning. The room invites language bursts, early friendships and big-sensory play that turns mess into meaningful discovery.

Independence in action: simple choices, tidy-up time, coats/boots practice, early toileting support

Big on messy, big on meaning: sand, water, dough, paint and clay as early science, maths and language

Small-group songs, stories and turn-taking that build attention and listening

Outdoor exploration daily — digging, planting and seasonal discoveries in a secure garden

Key Person support to pace challenges to each child

Busy Bees Room

A classroom decorated with autumn-themed displays and small wooden furniture. In the foreground, a round table with various wooden toys, potted plants, and bowls of pinecones and dried leaves. A balance scale with a pile of dried leaves and pinecones is on the table. The background shows more small tables, chairs, and educational decorations on the walls, including a bulletin board with a fall-themed border and framed pictures.
  • 30-36 months

  • Bridging to preschool with confidence

A nurturing transition room that adjoins Honey Pot, giving children free-flow access and regular time with preschool staff. We focus on self-care, communication and the confidence to join bigger group times — all while keeping play joyful.

    • Free flow with Honey Pot to make the next step feel familiar

    • Small-group learning for focus, turn-taking and early problem-solving

    • Role play, construction and cooking to develop language and real-world skills

    • Independence skills: self-serve snack, choosing resources, looking after belongings

    • Outdoors in all weathers for balance, coordination and resilience

Honey Pot Room

A decorated classroom with a round table set for an activity, featuring autumn-themed decorations, colorful letters, and natural materials like acorns and leaves.
  • 3yrs -5yrs

  • Confident, school-ready — still joyfully playful

Our preschool blends child-led exploration with skilled adult teaching so children leave us curious, capable and kind.

Early literacy & maths through play: storytelling, mark-making, phonological awareness, number sense

Understanding the world: simple STEM provocations, cooking, nature study and child-led projects

Voice & independence: planning their play, job roles, respectful routines and self-regulation

Indoors ↔ outdoors: continuous access to the garden, mud kitchen, potion-making and planting beds

Smooth transition to school: thoughtful handovers, confidence-building visits and a personal learning record

Prospectus

I joined Busy Little Bees in 2020 after working in the Early Years sector for 12 years, including eight years in management.

With many years of invaluable experience in Early Years education, I am deeply passionate about creating an environment where every child feels valued, included and inspired to reach their full potential. I celebrate the rich diversity of our children and families, fostering an inclusive setting where everyone feels welcomed and empowered.

Being very family-oriented, I recognise the importance of forming close partnerships with parents and carers. By building these strong relationships, we have created a nurturing community where learning, growth and meaningful connections extend beyond the nursery setting.

At Busy Little Bees, we offer each child a unique and individual learning journey through purposeful play and thoughtfully designed environments. My aim, together with my team of nurturing practitioners, is to help shape the future by guiding and inspiring our little learners — placing them at the heart of everything we do.

We look forward to welcoming you to our setting.
